Brutal heatwave ‘roasts’ India and Pakistan

Brutal heatwave ‘roasts’ India and Pakistan

Several deaths have been blamed on a current heat wave that has hit parts of Pakistan and India. Temperatures were as high as 53 degrees Celsius (127 degrees F) in parts of Pakistan last week. India also recorded max temperatures of 45.2 degrees Celsius in the capital. At least 260 people have reportedly died from the heat wave. And the merciless sun is also responsible for the heat strokes and many people also bore the brunt of food poisoning.

However there is some good news in store, as the record-breaking temperatures are expected to cool down in the coming days. Meteorologists however added that after the cooling period, the temperature would probably rise again. Meteorologists said that the trough would weaken the ridge and in the process provide some cool much needed relief to the citizens of the affected countries.

Last week, several schools were shut down in India, because of the heat wave. Schools were shut down in the state of Haryana in India.

The heat situation in India is not helped by the shortage of drinking water in most parts in the country. This problem coupled with frequent power outages has made the heat wave most severe for all the citizens of India. The most affected places are the northern, western and central India.
